A partner's perspective

In Episode 6, Carolyn spoke with mother-to-be Hallie. Now it’s time to have a conversation with her partner Matt to see how pregnancy has affected his life and their partnership. Being aware is a large part of participating in the journey and Matt urges us to take it one step at a time.
"You always wonder, 'did we talk about this in health class or in sex ed. at some point and I forgot about it because I was 13 at the time and it didn't seem important?' Or, 'did they just not tell us,' which seems more likely to me. So, I felt completely uneducated."
About Our Guest

Matt is a long-time son and first-time father who is working on his dad jokes. When not changing diapers, he teaches college students and writes about literature. As a researcher, he found Emily Oster's evidence-based dive into the details of pregnancy, childbirth, and early childhood research in Expecting Better and Cribsheet to be informative and empowering. Pamela Druckerman's Bringing Up Bébé spoke to the francophile in him and provided a welcome, light-hearted step out of intensive American childbirth and parenting culture. As a prospective parent eager to support the labor and delivery process, he was enlighted by a doula and midwife-taught birth class. Penny Simkin's Birth Partner was an essential resource, right up to and during labor. Now, as a father, the Paternal podcast hosted by Nick Firchau sparks reflection on parenting.
